I’m still riding quite high on gratitude to the Universe this week for how things have been panning out for myself and my wife of late, which meant today’s Full Moon Abundance Renewal ritual really felt like a pleasant formality for success we already enjoy…

Another victory of sorts is that today marks my first week of giving up cigarettes, which is something I’ve known needed to be done (physically/mentally/spiritually) for some time now. This isn’t to say I’ve phased out nicotine altogether, but I’ve managed to transition to an e-cigarette, and do also enjoy puffing on an old skool pipe periodically throughout the day. I know it’s not the same as quitting smoking, but getting off the pack-a-day+ habit of cigarette smoking wasn’t doing myself or Jenny any favors. Already I feel healthier (and wealthier) which can only be an improvement, which I hope is a trend that continues.

It’s also worth noting that suddenly losing “tobacco cigarettes purchased for personal consumption” was the “Insured” item on the Energetic Equivalency Insurance Policy that I created and signed with myself in late December. Here we go…

So mote it be.

Creatively though, I’ve felt very trapped behind the 8-ball of my Blackspire Pre-Series History write-up. I continue to plug away at it as bit at a time, but I have to be honest, of late it’s become very tedious for me… When I see how far I’ve come, and how much more I really still have left to write, I kinda lose heart and it feels less fun and more “chore-like” to imagine plodding through the rest. Which while this writing project has proven to be a good exercise for me to get my head straight about the events and resources I’ve already covered for the campaign I’ll be resurrecting, I’m not sure who else they’ll be of use for… hopefully the Blackspire PCs, as well as Aaron who’ll be helping me scheme once I get him “caught up”… and so we’re back to that…

Speaking of, I continue to have back and forths with Aaron concerning his Lovecraftian Forgotten Realms campaign, and specifically we’ve been talking an awful lot about the Cthulhu Mythos, and the King in Yellow in particular. I’ve decided to try to incorporate much of the same concepts we’re discussing into the future of the Blackspire campaign…

And by all that is holy (and unholy) do I want a copy of Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Wars so I can paint some of those awesome sculpts for Blackspire Studios (and maybe one day, my game).

I’ve kinda gotten obsessed with the premise (all over again) but this time have even gone so far as to absorb all the Robert Chambers “Yellow King” short stories, re-watch “True Detective”, and basically dive back into the entire Cthulhu mythos for a Qabbalistic “Ain-Soph-Aur” mindset when meditating on the concepts of the Outer Gods. I’ve even gone so far as to reread my copy of the Necronomicon which of course now as a magician I tread a bit more lightly with than I did when I first bought the thing decades ago…

I didn’t realize until last night that freaking James Wasserman was involved in that book’s creation… I mean I know the book is ultimately a hoax.. but that doesn’t mean it still won’t work… especially if you still kinda pull from “real” sources…

Of course, the synchronicity of all this info I discovered… compared to some personal issues I’ve wrestled with, as well as many of those same themes echoing out in the world at large makes me prick up my ears. In fact (while I won’t share specifics) one of the gents who was over to our house last week just a few years ago had exhibited a terrifying personal trait that I later see echoed in one of the characters in Chamber’s “The Repairer of Reputations” short story… a chilling “coincidence”. I can’t help but love the “coincidence” though…

I love the collective story-telling of the King in Yellow character… Chambers borrowed “Carcosa” from Ambrose Bierce, and later H.P. Lovecraft was so taken by the Yellow King concept he incorporates it into his “Cthulhu Mythos” (or “Yog-Sothothery” as he’d have put it…). And naturally… so many artists have added on and evolved that Universe its taken on a life of its own… a shared (and evolving) Astral realm, which is tapped into some ancient, pre-Euclidian ideas…

It’s all so epic… if you don’t let it scare you…

In a way, the Slenderman phenomena (which HBO has a great documentary about it if you haven’t seen it) is just another incarnation of the King in Yellow character… or at least his thematic heir, especially when you consider how powerful a thought-form the Slenderman entity could potentially be in mankind’s collective unconscious, and why (real or imaginary) such things are really not ideal things to be rattling around in the brains of the mentally or emotionally unbalanced… as evidenced so definitively by the crimes detailed in the documentary, but also by the outpouring of support by the so-called “Slenderman Community” in support of the crimes…

It just goes to show… everything begins in the mind. While yes, the reverse is also true, but it is the Astral that ultimately informs the Material. Matter is the illusion. Ideas are bigger than us. More powerful perhaps, but useless without a vessel. Without us.

This is the crux of my work, where fiction and reality blend in our collective imagination (the Astral) to manifest outcomes and achieve gnosis.

Of course I “made it up” – that’s where the stuff that works, starts…

That’s what I believe at any rate…
