I got the pieces of the loom cut up and assembled. Some angles were impossible to cut with a saw, but fortunately my Dremel had just the piece I needed.

I’ll be using it to do most of the sanding and hole-drilling on it tomorrow when the wife’s out. With a little finagling I was able to get all the pieces assembled (a combo of nails and good old Gorilla Glue.

I still have a dark mahogany wood stain I’ve used on other wood projects (like my “famous” gaming table leaf) but I’ve got a few others, including a beautiful cherry finish I did our wine rack with, but I may have to go looking for that one…

Two more pieces for the gift also arrived today, a spool of 16 gauge aluminum wire and a pair for Flush Cut pliers. These are used along with the steel dowels to create your own rings for making mail, and just to test them out I made a quick spool of rings.

Honestly, I was able to churn out close to 100 in almost no time at all, and I wasn’t even trying to be that careful or precise but I think they look just as good as most of what she orders online.

Whether they pass her quality standards or not remains to be seen, but at least now she has the tools to make the kind of rings she wants.

And if the pliers don’t hack it for her I can always get her a jeweler’s saw or something similar…
