So today my wife Jenny went to Alexandria, VA to rehearse the Equinox ritual with the O.T.O. brother Wimsaur Madivhan who’d written it, and since she was out of the house most of the day I used the opportunity to do all the drilling, sanding, carving, hammering, painting, staining, etc on the mail loom project.

It took most of the day, but it’s complete, and though it’s a little more wobbly than I envisioned, overall I think it looks good, and the multiple holes all line up so the device can be made both taller and wider. At its smallest it’s perfect for doing mail work with it over her lap, and at its largest would be ideal for her setting it up on a table.

For the stain I ended up going with Minwax’s “Early American” which I thought would give the whole thing a very antique sort of feel. The finish brings out a nice cool sheen to the wood which I think is very pretty. I hope she likes it.

Even though her birthday is Monday, I’m going to give it to her tomorrow so she has a chance to play with it… and also since Monday after work (and my chiropractor visit) I’m taking her to Petite Louis for dinner. It’s one of our favorite restaurants, and I’m looking forward to it.
