Wimsaur asked me my write up of the Zodiacal progression of the Hero’s Journey game we “play-tested” on Saturday, so my original take on it is below.

Now Campbell actually had 17 stages to the Hero’s Journey, but other scholars had less, and it’s easy enough to round out to 12. I think it could be interesting to do more research into the Monomyth (which would also be a great name for the game) and taking another stab at the attributions, and ways to incorporate more draws to the game if players want to, which currently each player takes turns drawing one card from the Tarot and taking turns telling the story (so 13 total cards).

The Land of Perfect Day The Call to Adventure Refusal of the Call Supernatural Aid Crossing the First Threshold Belly of the Whale The Road of Trials
Pisces Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo

Meeting With the Goddess Atonement With the Father Figure Ultimate Boon Refusal of the Return Magic Flight Crossing of the Return Threshold
Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces

But, I also think it could be cool for players to draw three cards for the Land of Perfect Day (Past, Present, and Hero) and (at least) three for the Road of Trials to spice up the story and give it more structure.

I’m onto something here though.
